Weather: The islands' proximity to the Middle East and Africa makes it one of the hottest parts of the Mediterranean, and, during the summer high pressure coming up from North Africa keeps the temperatures high. From May to September, Cyprus consistantly sees temperatures over 30c, with cloudless skies and virtually no rain. Cooling breezes make the high temperatures in the coastal resorts much more pleasant, with the beaches ideal for sunbathing and watersports. Spring and Autumn are also great times to visit, with lovely sunny days and temperatures averaging between 23c and 27c. These are great weather conditions for sightseeing, cycling, hiking and exploring nature. Winters are very mild especially in coastal areas, still with pleasant warm temperatures, but, occasionally cools down to 17c mostly in the evenings. From late January to early April the peaks of Troodos Mountain range are covered with snow and during several weeks the 4 ski pists are operational. Most of the rain in Cyprus falls between December and February. The island averages an amazing 330 days of sunshine each year.
